Stop playing Engineering on Hard Mode!
I spend almost an entire day on YouTube; watching to learn and of course have some entertainment along the way. And so it happens I came across a youtuber by the name
‘'Ali the Dazzling’ (watch the video here youtube) -
who talks basically about his experience with Electrical Engineering; he’s actually qualified to do so since he’s done Bsc, Msc, and PhD all in this field.
One of my favorite take aways from his playlist is how one , especially engineering students should take it easy-play the game on easy mode. Sounds crazy right? Actually it doesn’t, and I’ll explain why.
You see , the technical subjects like engineering have some kind of hardness associated with it , and approaching it with the same level of hardness may not help as expected -it may even increase the frustration which eventually leads to unnecessary hate on the field.
But what is Hard or Easy Modes? I’ll explain in an easy way.
Ever seen a student enjoying whatever they are doing- they don’t normally frequent the libraries much-instead spend more time in their social circles (however small they may be) .They also seem to have much more time to explore their hobbies, travel much more etc—actually this is not the entirety of what I mean by Easy mode-sometimes people are just too lazy so they avoid things that matter most.
However, most of the examples above reflect an easy mode- you just have to know when fun is too much .
On the other hand , the Hard Mode is of course the opposite-Stressing on things you can’t even control, taking on extraordinarily difficult projects outside your level (ending up frustrated), and sacrificing too much for the sake of the field-yeah ,this list feels like I’m describing myself LOL.
The sweet spot might then be staying in the middle-going hard when things are favorable & chilling it out when the going shifts uphill. My point is there is not an excuse to burn yourself out at the expense of work or career- there’s plenty of great stuff that’s enjoyable about engineering if only you sit back and view it with a different mindset.
Till next time…
